Simsbury's 'Memory Cafés' Help Those With Dementia

The first 'Memory Café' event of 2023 will take place at the Simsbury Public Library Wednesday, Feb. 15.

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Public Library and Simsbury Senior Center Wednesday is hosting a special event designed to help folks suffering from memory loss and other forms of dementia and cognitive impairment.

From 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, the library at 725 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, is welcoming folks to its "Simsbury Stories Memory Cafe."

Wednesday's program is the first of 2023, with the discussion topic being past snow days and legendary snowstorms experienced by participants.

In addition, program participants will make snow-themed greeting cards to share with loved ones and music and light refreshments will be available as well.

The program is free, but registration is requested.

"Memory Cafe" is specifically designed for people with memory loss, early stage dementia or cognitive impairment and its designed to help those afflicted as well as they're caregivers.

Last summer, the Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted to pursue grant funds to the program and it successfully earned a 2022 AARP Connecticut Livable Communities Grant to finance the program.
