Summer Olympic Games: How Connecticut's Connections to Team USA Are Faring
Athletes from the Nutmeg State are experiencing varying degrees of success in Rio.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL — As the 2016 Summer Olympic Games move into the final week of competition, we take a look at how the athletes of Team USA with strong Connecticut ties have performed.
A pair of track and field athletes from Connecticut have yet to run their events. Donn Cabral of Glastonbury will run the first round of the 3,000 meter steeplechase Monday morning, while Yale graduate Kate Grace will compete in the 800 meters beginning Wednesday morning.

Basketball (women's)
- Sue Bird (UConn 1998-2002), Tina Charles (UConn 2006-2010, Connecticut Sun 2010-2013), Maya Moore (UConn 2007-2011), Breanna Stewart (UConn 2012-2016), Diana Taurasi (UConn 2000-2004), Lindsay Whalen (Connecticut Sun 2004-2009)
- Won five straight games to finish preliminary rounds with perfect score of 10 points.
Canoeing

- Devin McEwan (Salisbury)
- Placed 10th in double canoe slalom final with partner Casey Eichfeld.
Field hockey
- Melissa Gonzalez (UConn 2011)
- U.S. will play Germany in quarterfinals Monday morning.
Rowing
- Andrew Campbell, Jr. (New Canaan High School 2010)
- Finished fifth in lightweight double sculls final with partner Joshua Konieczny.
- Charlie Cole (New Canaan High School 2003, Yale University 2007)
- Finished seventh in men's four.
- Austin Hack (Old Lyme High School 2010)
- Placed fourth in men's eights.
Rugby
- Chris Wyles (Stamford)
- U.S. defeated Spain 24-12 in ninth-place match.
Sailing
- Thomas Barrows III (Yale University 2010), Joe Morris (Yale University 2012)
- Currently 18th in 49er men's standings, next race Monday.
- Stuart McNay (Yale University 2005)
- Currently eighth in 470s, next race Sunday.
Soccer (women's)
- Alyssa Naeher (Seymour; Christian Heritage School-Trumbull 2006)
- U.S. lost to Sweden in quarterfinals, eliminated from medal contention.
Track and field
- Mike Hartfield (Manchester High School, 2008)
- Placed 25th in long jump qualifying, did not advance.
Water polo
- Thomas Dunstan (New Canaan)
- U.S. is fifth in Group B in preliminary rounds.
