The Simsbury Crew team kicked off the spring season at the Tabor Cup, which was held this past Saturday, April 13th, at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Tabor Cup is an annual competition between Tabor Academy (MA) and Simsbury High. While other crews also row against the Simsbury and Tabor boats, including Stonington (CT), East Lyme (CT), Shrewsbury (MA), and St. John's (MA), the competition for the Cup remains just between Simsbury and Tabor. This year Simsbury was once again victorious, bringing home the Simsbury/ Tabor Pincombe Cup.
It was a cold, miserable day, with intermittent rain. The variable tail-crosswinds and strong gusts throughout the day, made rowing extremely challenging. These challenging conditions also led teams to struggle with the floating starts. Despite many challenges all school teams raced determinedly along the 1.5 km course.
The Simsbury Crew’s women’s 1st Varsity boat came 3rd, in a time of 5.45:5. The women’s 2nd Varsity boat came 2nd, with a finishing time of 6:18.1. The women’s 3rd boat finished the race in 4th place, with a time of 6:48.0 The men’s 1st varsity boat took the 6th spot with a time of 5:41.6. The men’s 2nd boat came in 5th and completed the race in the time of 5:37.0. The men’s 3rd boat came in 4th place, with a time of 6:54.9.
The Simsbury Crew team, will be returning to Lake Quinsigamond this Saturday, April 20th for the Exeter Invitational.
