The Playhouse Theater Academy is hosting a three-week summer program where teens learn the ins and outs of theater, then put on a play.

SIMSBURY/WEST HARTFORD/GREATER HARTFORD, CT — Area teens with a flair for drama can put their talents to good use this summer at a unique program where the magic of theater is experienced when school is out.

The Playhouse Theatre Academy is conducting a program in Simsbury called "Teen Company: Let's Put on a Show" and its for area teens aged 13-17.

It all starts Monday, July 24, as Simsmore Square in Simsbury, 540 Hopmeadow St.

The Playhouse Theatre Academy is the educational arm of the West Hartford-based Playhouse Theatre Group Inc.

This program is a three-week session where "students will immerse themselves in a professional rehearsal process," according to the organization.

Participants will, eventually, put on a production of "She Kills Monsters," which will take place at the Playhouse Theatre Academy's studio space at Simsmore Square.

The program is daily from July 24 to Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"All students will go through an 'audition' process the first day, but everyone will receive a role," reads an announcement from the acdemy. "Students will get to learn stagecraft, develop character building skills through creating their own character journals and working together as an ensemble."

In addition, students will also have a chance to design and create their own costumes, makeup and help with prop and set design.

The whole summer program culminates in final performances that will be on Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
