"Is This Thing on?" Navigating the Digital World - Talk & Lunch at Simsbury Public Library

Do you feel like a "digital immigrant" when it comes to the technology around you? Let Abby Stokes be your guide through the digital world.

Confused about the digital world around you? The digital divide widens with the rapid pace of new innovations and gadgets. Abby Stokes helps 'digital immigrants” (those baby boomers and beyond not born with a keyboard and mouse in hand) understand what is out there and what might benefit you. From conquering your computer and laptop to enjoying your smartphone and tablet, Abby will give you the knowledge, confidence and encouragement you need to feel comfortable.

'Is This Thing On?' (General Information) is from 11:30 to 12:30. Lunch served 12:30-1:00. 'How to be Smart with Your Smartphone and Tablet' is from 1:00 to 2:00. Attend both talks, or just one.

Abby Stokes, described as “engaging, funny, and extremely knowledgeable” by those who have seen her speak, has taken on the role of the Johnny Appleseed of Technology, crisscrossing the country to help Digital Immigrants conquer their fear of technology. A firm believer that 'if my mother can learn the computer anyone can,” Abby is confident that everyone can master the computer and navigate the Internet. Her latest book is entitled Is This Thing On?” A Friendly Guide to Everything Digital for Newbies, Technophobes and the Kicking & Screaming.

This program will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St. Free and open to all. Co-sponsored by the Library and the Simsbury Senior Center, but digital immigrants of all ages are welcome. Register with the Senior Center at 860-658-3273.
