UConn Hoops Legend To Host Benefit 5K Run In Simsbury

Proceeds of 'Donny's Dash' on Nov. 2 will help the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford.

SIMSBURY/HARTFORD, CT — A local hoops hero and current college basketball broadcaster is hosting a special event to raise money for Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford next week.

University of Connecticut basketball legend and Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford Trustee Donny Marshall will host the 2024 “Donny’s Dash” 5K on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Simsbury.

It will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center, 32 Iron Horse Blvd., Simsbury.

"Donny’s Dash," is a unique opportunity for club kids to participate in the fundraising event.

The 2024 Donny’s Dash features a new 5K course and a new 1-mile fitness walk.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford have teamed up with the Hartford Marathon Foundation, Connecticut Sun and other partners to create ‘Donny’s Dash,’ Nov. 2 in Simsbury,” said Ron Hadorn, Interim CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. “Special thanks to our Board member Donny Marshall for lacing up his sneakers once again.”

Donny’s Dash 5K welcomes participants of all abilities, ages, and fitness levels to run or walk.

Youths 16 and under can run for free and kids can also take part in the free Connecticut Sun Fun Run.

The 21st Century Tolland Fund is sponsoring all participating adaptive athletes.

“I see first-hand the importance of providing a positive and safe place for Hartford’s youth,” said Marshall. “Join us for an inspiring fall run & walk in the picture-perfect Farmington River Valley. Yes, great steps start here.”

Produced by the Hartford Marathon Foundation, “Donny’s Dash” will also feature other fun along with the race.

For example, iHeartMedia hosts a post-race "SoleFest" with fun, food and music with free Lawson’s Finest Liquids to participating runners/walkers 21 and older and kids of any age can enjoy the LEGO play zone.

Prizes for runners/walkers are provided by LEGO Systems, Inc. and Fleet Feet West Hartford.
