USING THE TAROT TO UNLOCK YOUR STORY

There are countless ways to use tarot cards as a tool to spark your creativity and writing, just as there are countless writers who’ve used them, including Stephen King, John Steinbeck, T. S. Eliot and W.B. Yeats.
You don’t have to know the “official” meaning of tarot cards to begin to incorporate them into your writing life. In fact, one of the first lessons you’ll learn in this 6-week course is how to read the cards intuitively, so whether you write fiction, non-fiction or poetry, you can immediately begin using the tarot as a tool to develop plots, conflicts or characters; establish a mood or setting; better understand your own feelings about a topic or issue; overcome writer’s block;
or even outline an entire novel, novella or short story.
Led by both a professional writer and tarot card reader, this course will show you how the images, symbols and archetypes pictured on tarot cards stimulate the right, creative side of our brains to ignite our imaginations, tap into forgotten memories, and inspire ideas that might otherwise sit stagnant and unrealized in our subconscious. You’ll leave the course knowing how to:
-- Break through writer’s block with an innovative understanding
of how the Major Arcana provides a framework for a universal story outline.
-- Spark creativity and Brainstorm story ideas
-- Sketch out a story arch or develop a structure
-- Outline your narrative
-- Use the Minor Arcana to flesh out characters, plot and dialogue
-- Discover a character’s backstory or create action, conflict and setting
-- Better understand your writing goals and motivation
-- Explore new ideas
-- Find the who/what/when/where/why/how of a situation
-- And so much more
Weekly classes will consist of writing prompts, printable diagrams of tarot card spreads, at least one formal writing exercise, and written advice and encouragement from instructor Annie Kelleher. No experience with tarot cards is necessary to begin, enjoy or benefit from this course. The only thing you’ll need is a tarot deck. Class instructions will be based on the classic, 78-card Rider-Waite deck. If you’ve never used tarot cards before, you’ll probably be most comfortable, and find the greatest success,
using the Rider-Waite deck, too.
