Veteran Simsbury Fire Chief Issues Heartfelt Message To Community
In an emotional letter to the Simsbury community, veteran SVFD firefighter/chief James Baldis officially bid adieu to the town he served.

SIMSBURY, CT — A beloved firefighter who served the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years, including 20 as its chiefs, has issued a heartfelt goodbye to the community he served.
Now-retired SVFD Chief James Baldis posted a goodbye letter to the town via the department's Facebook page.
Last week, Baldis officially retired amid a change-of-command ceremony in which Todd Myers became the new chief on Sept. 18.

In his letter, Baldis thanked the entire fire department and Simsbury community for the support he's received over the years.
"My 48-year journey as a member of the volunteer fire company with the last 20 as chief has been rewarded knowing that I was able to make a positive impact to the organization and community," he wrote.

Baldis also paid tribute to Meyers, a veteran firefighter who, Baldis said, will ensure a seamless transition of leadership.
"A third-generation volunteer of the fire company, Todd brings to this position many of the same values that guided me," wrote Baldis.
