On Sunday, November 4, from 3:00-4:30pm, the Storyteller’s Cottage will host a double feature Author Salon with father-daughter author duo Charles Veley and Anna Elliot. They will discuss their young readers series, The Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mysteries. The cost is just $5 and includes a reception afterwards. Tickets can be reserved here: https://www.storytellerscottage.com/book-online/author-talk-with-charles-veley-l

Veley and Elliot will discuss their unique process of collaboration as a father-daughter author duo; little-known facts about Sherlock Holmes and what makes him so appealing; bringing an empowered female voice to the forefront of Holmesian lore and into the Victorian era; why portraying Sherlock Holmes in a family-friendly context has proven controversial to some Conan Doyle fans; the universal themes of love, family, crime, and hate that sit at the heart of a story set in a world that otherwise looks so different than our own; and their respective writing careers and experience collaborating on a story borne from childhood memories for both of them.

ABOUT THE BOOKS: Sherlock Holmes -- as brilliant and engaging as ever -- is the father of Lucy James, an independent, modern-minded American actress living in Victorian London. She’s inherited her father’s intelligence, detective skills, and bravery.

Each book centers on Sherlock and Lucy as they collaborate on solving crimes. The books contain clean language, exciting conflicts, and imaginative mysteries in the Conan Doyle tradition. There are eight books in total to date: The Last Moriarty; The Wilhelm Conspiracy; Remember, Remember; The Crown Jewel Mystery (a prequel); The Jubilee Problem; Death at Diogenes Club; The Return of the Ripper; and Die Again, Mr. Holmes. The books are as enjoyable as standalone stories as they are read in consecutive order.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Charles Veley has loved Sherlock Holmes since boyhood. As a father, he read the entire canon to his daughter at evening story time. Now, his daughter, who has grown up to become acclaimed historical novelist Anna Elliot, works with him to develop critically acclaimed adventures in The Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery Series.
