This six-week creative writing workshop will encourage young writers to put their thoughts on paper – and teach them to create original stories. Together, we will produce “heart maps” to help writers identify the things that are most important to them, and students will draw on the contents of these heart maps for inspiration throughout the workshop, since the best writing comes from the heart. Children will learn the building blocks of fiction-writing, including character development, establishing place, and writing dialogue, while participating in fun writing activities and responding to imaginative poetry and story prompts, all in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Further inspiration will come from writing in literary-themed spaces: We will gather in the Medieval Castle Room at The Storyteller’s Cottage, and children will have the opportunity to write in settings like Harry Potter’s Cupboard Under the Stairs, the Alice in Wonderland Tea Room, and the Enchanted Fairy Tale Forest.
MEETS: Thursdays 4:45 - 5:45pm (Feb 1 - Mar 8)
