Zoning Commission Public Hearing October 17, 2016

I am here tonight to urge this Commission to deny the application before you for a Text Amendment.

In the past, the Town and the Land Trust purchased development rights to the property in question to be preserved as an agricultural land.

This amendment before you changes the intent of the public to preserve that land without any commercial establishments.

This amendment will have unintended consequences by giving up the town’s oversight of agricultural land.

Eventually this could evolve into a Stew Leonard market and banquet facility.

The town should not add a Text Amendment to satisfy a single entity. We should not be in the business of spot zoning.

I would like to know if this Text Amendment has been before the Planning Commission for comments on the application.

This amendment will transition the neighborhood into a commercial area and change the character of the town forever.

This Text Amendment is a self serving request and should be denied.
