2 Pomperaug High Students Receive Art Awards

Two PHS students recognized at CT Association of Schools High School Arts Awards Banquet.

From Pomeraug Regional School District 15: Morgan Rosen and Katrina Hon, seniors from Pomperaug High School (PHS), were recognized at the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) 23rd Annual Arts Awards Banquet on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT.

The Connecticut High School Fine Arts Awards annually honors two outstanding seniors from each of the member schools in the state who excel in the performing or visual arts. Excelling in the performing or visual arts is of primary importance in the selection. Students must also possess scholarship and leadership qualities.

Morgan Rosen was recognized for excelling in the performing arts. Morgan is an active participant in many of the programs offered by the Fine Arts Department at PHS including continuous participation in band, marching band, and choir. She is an active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and a talented member of the Pomperaug Theater Company (PTC). As part of PTC, she has been involved in 11 productions over her 4 years at PHS, developing exceptional construction and design skills. She was named the Head of Construction for set design and most recently Stage Manger. She was nominated for a Halo award, an honor bestowed to high school students’ achievements in all aspects of theatre by Seven Angels Theatre, for her set design for “The Adams Family.” She plans to double major in Technical Theater and Criminal Justice in college next year.

Katrina Hon was recognized for excelling in the visual arts. A talented artist, Katrina has participated in multiple visual arts programs and extra curricular activities at PHS. She is currently the President of National Art Honors Society, French Honors Society, and Pomp Med, a medical based volunteer group. She is also the Vice President of Interact and Science Honors Society, and the Tutoring Coordinator for National Honor Society. She is the Senior Drum Major for marching band and a National Merit Finalist, a United States Presidential Scholars Program Candidate, and she has received the Governor’s Scholar Award, Harvard Book Award, Women Engineers Award, Honorary Science Award, Silver Medal for French Concours Test and placed 15th in the United States in the Chemistry Olympiad. She is also a member of the PHS track and cross-country teams. She will be attending Harvard University next year concentrating on neurobiology on a pre med track.
