SOUTHBURY, CT — A pair of suspects were arrested by Southbury police last week after they tried to gain access to a victim's bank account by using fake identification, according to authorities.
Arrested on Nov. 30 at the Chase Bank on Main Street South in Southbury were Oakville resident Conrad L. Carvey, 44, and Victor D. Ventura, 28.
Police said that Carvey tried to use a fake Rhode Island driver's license and a fake credit card illegally link a victim's account to an account of Ventura's.

"Once the accounts were linked, the money could have been funneled from the victim's account into Ventura's," police said. "Both men stated they were being paid by a third party to perform their respectful tasks and that they had no intention of stealing from the victim."
Southbury police were alerted to the attempted scam by bank personnel, and authorities said the two may have attempted the same potential scam at other Chase branches.
