4th Annual S4 Epilepsy Walk, Dinner and Silent Auction Charity Event to Promote Epilepsy Awareness Scheduled in Southbury, CT on June 6, 2015

Day of Family Fun at Ballantine Park, Southbury, CT from 1:04 pm to 7:34 pm

The S4 Epilepsy Walk, Dinner and Silent Auction Charity Event, rapidly becoming known as an event having “Southbury Feel With National Appeal,” will commence at Ballantine Park with a 2.44 mile walk and continue with a day of fun, food and family activities until 7:34 pm.

S4 stands for “Sarah and Southbury Strikeout Seizures,” in which the Fradkin Family of Southbury, CT hope to create awareness and raise funds for epilepsy research in honor of their daughter, Sarah, 14, who was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 6 years old.

Registration will begin at 1:04 p.m. at Ballantine Park. Welcoming events will start at 2:24 p.m. with the National Anthem, to be sung by Sarah. 

The 2.44-mile walk will begin at 2:44 p.m. After the walk there will be fun, food and family activities. Leo’s Restaurant, Senor Pancho’s, Julio’s Wood Fired Pizza and Grill and Valley Provisions (featuring Boar’s Head Brand) are donating and serving the food.

The silent auction, featuring over 100 unique items and experiences, will close at 6:44 p.m. There will be a large number of items available for bidding that have been donated from businesses in the area. The “National Appeal” of the event has been enhanced by the support of several major league baseball players and teams. Fans would never have the opportunity to otherwise experience such access to major leagues organizations and their stars, including autographed apparel. There are also opportunities to win a car, motor scooter, and ATV/quad with games of skill for all ages. Someone will go home with a car!

Funds raised at the June 6th S4 event will go to CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime. Epilepsy and seizures affect nearly 3 million Americans of all ages. About 200,000 new cases of epilepsy occur every year, which is about the same as new breast cancer diagnoses. 10% of the American population will experience a seizure in their lifetime. In 70% of new cases, the cause is unknown, and in 30% of cases, the seizures are not controlled. However, funding for epilepsy research is only a fraction of the amount spent on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other diseases even though more people suffer from epilepsy than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s combined.
