WATERBURY, CT — A former Waterbury teacher has been arrested again following a new claim that he sent inappropriate messages to a student.
Waterbury police said they charged Philip Hughes, 42, of Southbury, on a warrant Wednesday with one count of harmful contact with a minor.
Hughes posted a $50,000 bond, and he was scheduled to report to Superior Court in Waterbury Thursday morning for his arraignment, police said.
Hughes was previously arrested earlier this year and accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old female student.
Sgt. Joseph Morais said Waterbury detectives uncovered information that Hughes had subjected a different student to inappropriate messages, resulting in this latest charge.
Hughes taught technology education at the high school level, and he had also served as an assistant band director.
He was initially put on administrative leave. According to Morais, Hughes has since been terminated, is no longer a city employee, and is not permitted on any Department of Education property.
