SOUTHBURY, CT — Southbury residents looking to celebrate Independence Day will find several fireworks displays and holiday events nearby this year.
While the town's annual Southbury Celebration and fireworks show takes place in September, several July 4 options are available within a short drive.
One of the region's most unique Independence Day events returns to Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury.
The park's annual "Blast at the Beach" celebration is scheduled for July 4 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Lake Quassapaug, with fireworks expected around 10 p.m. Guests receive special 3D glasses designed to enhance the display.
Quassy Amusement Park is located at 2132 Middlebury Road in Middlebury.
Lake Compounce in Bristol will also host its annual fireworks show over the lake as part of its All-American Summer Celebration.
Displays are scheduled for July 3 and 4 and every Saturday through Aug. 15 at 9:30 p.m. and is included with park admission.
Lake Compounce is located at 185 Enterprise Drive in Bristol.
Brookfield's America 250 fireworks celebration is scheduled for June 26 at Town Hall, 100 Pocono Road, with fireworks expected around 9:15 p.m.
Ridgefield's annual Family Fireworks Celebration is set for July 4 at Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road.
Gates open at 6 p.m., with food vendors and family activities planned before fireworks begin at dusk. A rain date is scheduled for July 5.
Danbury's annual fireworks show is scheduled for June 27 at Candlewood Town Park, 36 Hayestown Road.
The free event runs from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will include live music by Junk from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., concessions and a fireworks display at dusk.
The rain date is June 28.
