Major Delays Expected On I-84 This Weekend: What Drivers Need To Know

SOUTHBURY, CT — Motorists should expect significant traffic delays near Interstate 84 Exit 15 in Southbury this weekend as the Connecticut Department of Transportation begins the next stage of a construction project, according to officials.

Roadwork is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Friday, July 24, and continue through 6 a.m. Monday, July 27, as crews replace a box culvert beneath Route 67 (Southford Road).

During the work, drivers can expect lane closures, temporary traffic signals and shifting traffic patterns near Southford Road and the eastbound I-84 Exit 15 on- and off-ramps, according to CTDOT and the Southbury Police Department.

Traffic impacts include:

Officials said delays are expected on Southford Road, Main Street North, Main Street South and other nearby roadways.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible and use caution while traveling through the work zone.

The approximately $2.18 million CTDOT project includes replacing an existing metal arch culvert with a new precast concrete box culvert beneath Route 67. The overall project is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, according to CTDOT.
