Large Southbury House Fire Draws Crews From Across Region

SOUTHBURY, CT — Firefighters from across the region responded to a large house fire in Southbury overnight, with crews remaining at the scene for several hours.

The fire broke out at a home on Shane Drive, off Georges Hill Road, according to the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department.

Roxbury firefighters were initially called at about 1:14 a.m. to assist Southbury with a possible transformer fire on Flagg Swamp Road while Southbury crews were responding to the house fire.

Southbury police handled a shorted wire at the Flagg Swamp Road incident, and Roxbury's Tanker 11 was redirected to assist firefighters at the Shane Drive fire, according to the department.

"A large house was on fire, and extensive help was needed," Roxbury firefighters said in a social media post.

Multiple departments were called to provide mutual aid, including firefighters from Sandy Hook, Oxford, Woodbury, Middlebury and Great Hill Hose Co., according to Roxbury firefighters.

Roxbury Ambulance was also asked to bring drinking water to the scene for firefighter rehabilitation.

Roxbury's tanker returned from the fire around 5 a.m., nearly four hours after the department was initially called to assist.

Information about the cause of the fire and whether anyone was injured was not immediately available.
