Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard is Recruiting for the 2027 Class

Come meet the training cadre and leaders and of course, meet the horses!

Each summer the Company visits Camp Harkness in Waterford, CT to perform a riding demonstration for the families and friends of the camp. Afterwards everyone has the opportunity to meet the horses and members of the Second Company Governor's Horse Guard. (1LT B. Mazzara, Second Company Governor's Horse Guard)

The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard (2GHG) is now recruiting for the 2027 class! At 9 AM on Saturday, Sept. 19, there will be a very informative Recruitment Open House and Power Point presentation.

2GHG is looking to recruit physically fit male and female adults ages 18 – 64 who live in Connecticut. No previous horse riding or military experience necessary. Recruit training mainly takes place on Saturdays and recruits will learn all the required basics during the 16-week course. A physical exam and background check will be required before the training classes begin.

The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard is a non-profit, all-volunteer troop located in Newtown. Chartered in 1808, 2GHG is one of the oldest surviving U. S. Military Cavalry troops in the United States. Its mission is to serve the Governor and the residents of Connecticut by bringing history-rich educational programs to all ages, preserving Connecticut's strong and revolutionary history, through participation in ceremonial functions, including parades, special appearances, and presidential and gubernatorial inaugurations.
