Southbury Library Opens Applications For Laptop Lending Program

Eligible residents can apply online or at Southbury Social Services through Saturday, Jan. 2, 2027.

Southbury Public Library is accepting applications for laptop loans through the statewide Laptop ConneCT program, according to a Town of Southbury announcement. The application period runs from Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, through Saturday, Jan. 2, 2027.

Eligible Connecticut residents must be at least 18, have a valid library card and participate in a qualifying assistance program. Those programs are the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Medicare and HUSKY Health, including Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

The local application checklist specifies a valid Southbury Public Library card and no comparable internet-enabled computer or laptop in the household. Residents without a library card can obtain one when starting the process, according to the announcement.

Residents can apply online or in person at Southbury Social Services. The online form requires sign-in and asks for contact information, a library card number, intended uses and computer experience. Applicants may request accessories, including a stylus, external mouse or headset with microphone, but availability is not guaranteed.

The $7 million initiative loans laptops and related accessories through participating public libraries to expand access to education, employment and essential resources. It is administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in partnership with the Connecticut State Library, with funding from the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund.
