Arts Collective Holds Successful First Show

SOUTHBURY, CT– Calvary Chapel Southbury’s Arts Collective group held their first art show on May 2, based on the theme of “Refuge” and featuring art created by members of the group and others who attend the church.  In addition, the Arts Collective band, “Imperial Boxtruck” (Pictured above, from left to right:  Roger Eberlin, Michelle Wenis, Garth Pollock, Jordan Trinci and Mark Grasso), performed their original music for the audience.

There was a great turnout for the event, beautiful artwork on display and the crowd continued to linger, talking and enjoying refreshments even after the band concluded the show.  The consensus of all was that this should become a regular event, so plans are underway to pick a theme and a date for the next show.

The group is the brainchild of lifelong Sandy Hook resident, Mark Grasso, who leads the Arts Collective and plays lead guitar for Imperial Boxtruck.  “I think there is a tendency as Christians to turn off our creative juices because we want to be humble and avoid the spotlight being on us,” he explained.  ”The problem with that is that these talents are gifts from God, so we should be using them.  The goal of the Collective is to learn how to express ourselves creatively, recognizing it as a gift, as opposed to avoiding expression under false assumption that creative expression is just our humanity at work.”
