Ashley Wargo, of Southbury, Earns Spot on Assumption College Women's Cross Country Team

WORCESTER, MA -- The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Ashley Wargo, of Southbury, has earned a spot on the 2018 Assumption College Women's Cross Country team. Wargo, Class of 2022, will compete during the Greyhounds' fall season.

The Hounds finished the 2017 season with the team's first-ever regional win in the NCAA East Regional Championship. Women's Cross Country finished second in the Northeast-10 championship, and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship, finishing 27th overall.

"As the defending NCAA East Region Champs, there are high expectations for this team," said Head Coach Trent Baltzell, adding that though this is a brand-new group of runners, the team goal is to earn a third straight trip to the NCAA Championships. "It is a very long season with plenty of opportunity to catch fire. I think if we do what we need to do and take it day by day, we will achieve our goal both on and off the course. The extremely bright freshman class is joining a group of proven upperclassmen, whose average GPA of 3.6 average is the new benchmark for our academic success."
