Audubon Center in Southbury Allows Deer Hunts to Combat Depleting Plant Population
The hunts will take place till there is growth in some of the native plant species.

The Audubon Center at the Bent of the River’s Sanctuary will be allowing the first deer hunt on the property is 15 years, Bill Bittar reports for the Republican-American.
The deer population at Audubon is consuming everything in the forest’s under story that is important for birds and other wildlife in the forest.
According to the paper, the center conducted an intensive three-year study of the deer population before opening up the land to hunting. The organization plans to host hunts over a period of years until they see growth on the forest floor.

Leslie Kane, executive director of the center told the paper that as stewards of the sanctuary they believe that limiting the deer population would benefit the entire plant and wildlife community.
