Busy Season for the Y in Southbury!
Busy season may be over for accountants and tax professionals, but not for the Y!

Many of my friends from college are accountants and are now celebrating the end of busy season and the beginning of summer... shorter work days, long weekends, and dressing down. I, on the other hand, am faced with a different kind of excitement about summer: long days, short weekends, and staff shirts! The summer is definitely the busy season for the Y, thanks to the role we play in summer camp. And although summer may seem far off, we’re doing a lot these days to get ready. In addition to getting ready for campers, we’re still working on a few other things in Southbury and Middlebury.
For starters, our Leaders Clubs at Memorial Middle School and Rochambeau Middle School are completing their “Crawl Project” or basic service project. On Wednesday, April 11, ten members of the MMS Leaders Club traveled to the Community Food Bank at the Shepardson Community Center and helped stock shelves with the food and personal items they collected at MMS. They also spoke with the Director, JoAnn Cappelletti, about the need in their community and beyond. This week, the RMS Leaders Club is traveling to the Southbury Food Bank to do the same. These “Crawl Projects” will get them ready for more service projects in their community next year… Walk and Run Projects, which will involve more planning and community involvement.
On Saturday, we are starting our new Youth Sports Program in Southbury. We will be running three classes, Parent & Me Sports Spectacular, Parent & Me T-Ball, and Rookies T-Ball at the Southbury Training School on the lower fields next to the Pavilion. This program will be running for the next seven weeks and there’s still room for more kids and parents to come out and play! All classes are open to residents of other towns as well. Please email me to register cambrozaitis@waterburyymca.org.

Sunday is Healthy Kids Day at the Y in Waterbury, it will be a great opportunity to come and see what the Y has to offer and get a taste of summer camp. We’ll play camp games, paint faces, climb the rock wall, swim in the pool, and other activities… all free of charge for any kid who comes out! Parents can even come along and get a tour of the Y or join in the healthy activities.
All of this is just the start of busy season for the Y in Southbury, so stay tuned for more exciting events and happenings. And, as always, contact me if you’re interested in becoming part of the fun!
