In an effort to promote positive behavior in the community, S.M.A.R.T., Inc. (Southbury - Middlebury Acting Responsibly Together) is asking area families to embrace their "May is for Manners" initiative. Each day in May has been assigned a unique behavior or gesture, which adults and children are encouraged to practice. The members of S.M.A.R.T. believe that in today's culture, manners, which are basically a form of respect for self and others, have eroded, resulting in unpleasant behavior between adults and youth alike. The best way to begin to change this, S.M.A.R.T. members believe, is to begin with adults as role models, engaging in positive interactions with other adults and with their children. Pictured here is the downloadable "May is for Manners" calendar. What are the manners or gesture for today?
I'll be posting weeks-at-a-glance of the manners in this initiative, so try one a day! It's good for you.
