"May is for Manners" -- week FOUR coming up!

"May is for Manners" enters its fourth week on Sunday, May 20, with a variety of simple, quick to-do's. Some will be easy, others may provide a challenge. Go for it!

Wow.  I can't believe we're coming up on our fourth week in May.  Such a perfect time of year, I'm just glad we have almost five weeks of May this year.

So how are you doing with your manners?  This week we have had the opportunity to hold a door open for someone -- do you not just bristle when the door gets left to slam in your face? -- and to compliment someone else's mom.  My favorite this week has to be from May 16: smiling and saying "hi" to everyone -- EVERYone! -- I met during the day.  I'll tell you, it separated the wheat from the chaff in the middle school kids at the bus stops on my street, as I walked our dogs in the spring drizzle!  Some kids were pleasantly engaged and polite; others, well,... this is why S.M.A.R.T. started "May is for Manners" in the first place!

Next week we'll all have the chance to thank a variety of people, apologize sincerely, and keep our mouths shut!  Take a look at the week's calendar here and just dive in.  Some will be easy, others perhaps will provide a challenge.  Go for it!  In all cases, you will be surprised by the pleasant reactions of others, and the rewarding feeling in yourself.
