Seven Reasons to Send Your Child to Camp This Summer!

Just a few of the reasons to send your child to YMCA Camp Oakasha in Southbury this summer!

Summer vacation is the perfect time to relax with your family, but it's also a great time for your kids to try something new, develop independence, and stay active at YMCA Camp Oakasha!  This summer, our staff are dedicated to making sure that campers...

1.  Build confidence!  Camp offers children and youth an opportunity to be themselves and experience success every day.  Campers are surrounded by counselors and staff who care and create unique opportunities for them.  They will face challenges with their group and increase their ability to problem solve.  The confidence they build while at camp will grow when they go back to school, and share their summer adventures with their friends.

2.  Stay active!  While the school year is very busy and can be stressful even for the youngest students, camp offers a stress-free way to stay active in new, motivating ways.  Whether it's climbing the Tower (our rockwall), boating in the pond, swimming in the pool, or hiking, campers will be active every day in a variety of activities.

3.  Try something new!  Professional development in the camping world means learning new games, songs, and activities, so this summer we'll be armed with even more ways to inspire the creativity of your child and engage them in fun!  Our rotating schedule allows campers the opportunity to try each activity area, you never know what activity is going to be your child's new favorite!

4.  Get outside!  At YMCA Camp Oakasha most of our programming is outside.  Campers will have the opportunity to discover more about the world around them, get dirty, and enjoy our beautiful rustic setting.

5.  Make new friends!  Through team building, group games, and creative play campers will create new friendships.  Campers come from many different towns, so they'll have the opportunity to make lasting friendships that they wouldn't have made at school.

6.  Find a mentor!  Campers will be surrounded by positive role models all summer long, whether it's the counselors, CIT's, or other campers, it's easy to find someone to look up to at YMCA Camp Oakasha.

7.  Become part of a tradition!  This is YMCA Camp Oakasha's 16th year and we're excited to keep traditions alive and make some new ones this summer.  Do you know where the Oakasha tree is?!  Many of our staff members started out as campers, and they all take a great deal of pride in the camp and making sure the campers have a positive experience, just like they did.

There are only two weeks until the start of our summer program and still plenty of time to register to be a part of the friendship, adventure, and memories!
