Celebrating Veterans Day In Region 15 Schools

Programs Region 15 schools were designed to promote a deep appreciation for veterans, to connect students with service members, and more.

From Pomperaug Regional School District 15: Schools in Region 15 recognized Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 10th with assemblies and activities to honor the contributions made by the military members of our community.

Programs at all Region 15 schools were designed to promote a deep appreciation for veterans, to connect students with service members, and to better understand and absorb the significance of Veterans Day. Events included breakfast receptions, school-wide assemblies, special presentations and displays, thank-you cards, flag raising ceremonies, and classroom visits that gave an opportunity for veterans to share their experiences.

Across the Region, students and families were invited to participate in the “Wall of Honor” program to recognize a family member or family friend who has served in the armed forces. The honorees were displayed to recognize the many connections our families have with a member of our armed forces.

Anthony Buchsbaum, a 1st grade student at Long Meadow Elementary School in Middlebury, leads his classmates in the Veterans Day Assembly at the school. Schools in Region 15 recognized Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 10th with assemblies and activities to honor the contributions made by the military members of our community.

"In Region 15 we set aside time to honor our nation’s veterans for service above self and for selfless service in the name of freedom and liberty. Our Veteran's Day activities in Region 15 allow our students and our larger community to celebrate Veteran's Day in the manner in which it was intended -- by paying meaningful and heart-felt tribute to our veterans and by giving our veterans an opportunity to receive the gratitude and honor of our students and staff. Every year veterans, students, staff and family members thank us for this personal and inspiring experience. And to those who have served and fought for our freedom, know that you are heroes to whom we offer our gratitude and thanks. That is what this day is all about, ” said Regina L. Botsford, Region 15 Superintendent of Schools.
