Chase Bank, Gymboree Moving to Southbury
Two new businesses coming to the Southbury Green.
A bank and a children’s clothing store are moving into the vacated Blockbuster location at the Southbury Green.
Construction is underway on Chase Bank and Gymboree, which will fill a 6,000 square foot space that has been unoccupied since Blockbuster departed in February.
The building has been subdivided into two separate spaces, with 4,000 square feet going to Chase Bank, and the remaining 2,000 square feet dedicated to Gymboree, according to property Owner/Manager Chuck Favazzo of Miller & Favazzo Properties in Salem, MA.
Favazzo said the building received a fair bit of attention, but ultimately Chase and Gymboree were the right choice.
“There was other interest around, but this rose to the top,” said Favazzo. “They fit what we were looking for and were willing to sign a long term lease.”
The details of the lease were not disclosed, but Favazzo did confirm it was a long-term agreement.
Favazzo expressed his satisfaction with the speed a deal got done and how quickly renovations have commenced. The wall dividing the two businesses has already been erected and work on Gymboree is underway. Favazzo said he expects Gymboree to open next month, while Chase Bank should open by late summer.
“You never know, some take longer than others,” he said. “Thankfully this happen rather quickly.”
There will be another space to fill within the same plaza this fall, as Waterbury-based Webster Bank announced last week the closing of their Southbury Green location. That location is set to close on October 7.
