Chip's Restaurant Officially Opens in Southbury

The famous eatery known for its award winning pancakes and for offering breakfast all day has now opened.

If you love pancakes and who doesn’t, you’re going to absolutely love this news as Chip’s Restaurant, which gained its fame in Orange and beyond, has now officially opened this week in Southbury.

Chip’s, which has been voted by readers to have the best pancakes in the state for six straight years, is now officially open for business on the Southbury Green on Main Street South in the spot of a former Chinese restaurant.

The business is now hiring for several positions, according to its website.

In an interview in late May, Southbury’s zoning officer Mark Massoud, said at the time the business was putting the finishing touches on its restaurant, which offers a lot more than just pancakes.

“Folks are anxious for them to open,” Massoud said in a recent interview. “There’s been a lot of talk. A lot of people are looking forward to the pancakes.”

Massoud had said the business was expected to fully open in mid to late June but Chip’s was able to open sooner.

He said initially Chip’s was set to open in mid May but they ran into some additional work including replacing the air conditioning system on top of the building.

Chip’s got its start in Orange and has in recent years expanded to Fairfield, Trumbull, and Wethersfield

George Chatzopoulos took over Chip’s in 2003, and he has “extended the Chip’s Family Restaurant Menu to give customers healthier choices by adding fresh local produce and whole grain items,” according to Chip’s website.

“A big feature of the menu is that breakfast is served all day with all your favorite pancakes like cinnamon raisin, peanut butter and banana, black forest, Hawaiian, sweet potato, whole wheat,” according to the restaurant’s website.

Georgie has a simple philosophy of his business. “We are a family restaurant. Everything is homemade and that’s what makes the difference,” the website states.
