Cinema Project Receives Approval in Southbury
The project includes removal of 51,000 cubic yards of soil.

The Southbury Zoning Commission approved an application last week by Southbury Village Square LLC/owner, Southbury Riverview Cinema & Playhouse for a special exception soil extraction permit for earth removal of 51,000 cubic yards of soil in combination with the construction of a mixed use commercial building for property located at 690 Main Street South, town officials said.
What that all means is, this paves the way for the construction of an 8-screen movie theater, restaurant, additional retail space, and a couple of apartments to be housed at the site, reports the Republican-American.
Construction could begin later this spring. The back portion of the parcel will remain open space while it will take about two months to complete excavation work, the Rep-Am reports. For those two months, trucks will be making numerous trips in and out of the site.
