DEEP Closes Kettletown State Park for Swimming

High bacteria counts to blame for the closure.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) closed the swim area at Kettletown State Park in Southbury today because of high levels of bacteria in the water.

Kettletown was among six parks around the state with elevated bacteria levels taken during a test on Monday, Aug. 15.

“The run-off from the recent heavy rains has taken its toll on some of our swimming areas,” said DEEP Deputy Commissioner Susan Frechette in the release.  “The test results for the swimming areas were above standards for safe swimming and these areas will be closed until the sample results show improvement.”
