Demand for the Southbury Food Bank Continues to Grow
The facility continues to feed more Southbury residents, but it is running out of space at its current location.
2014 was a record year for the Southbury Food Bank. They served over 230 households in the community that were food insecure, giving out 10,935 bags of groceries. They also had 62 new households require assistance last year.
In 2015, food insecurity continues to be a problem for many Southbury residents. In February alone, 9 new households required assistance. Of the 411 individuals that make up these households 28% are seniors and 27% are children.
An important recent development in our organization is our new partnership with Connecticut Food Bank, a non-profit organization committed to reducing food insecurity in our state. This partnership will allow us to purchase food at significantly reduced prices which translates into our community’s financial donations (our sole source of revenue) going even further in stocking our shelves and meeting the needs of those we serve.

The basement storage at the Southbury Public Library is critical to our success and we would like to thank them for this space where we can safely store our stock for holiday programs and after food drives.
Without this additional storage, our current site at 88 Main Street South would not be sufficient. However, it is becoming clear that we are outgrowing our space due to the number of people we serve and our need for a commercial refrigerator and freezer. In the meantime, we are making due at our current space as we strive to end hunger in our community. We can’t thank you enough for your support in this mission.
