Driver Strikes Southbury Police Car, Tractor-Trailer With Child In Tow: State Police

Police say the woman sped off after officers helped free her car from a snow bank.

NEWTOWN, CT — State and Southbury police are investigating after a Danbury woman crashed into two different vehicles with a child in the car on I-84 in Newtown Thursday night.

Police say Yavonda Bradley, 42, side-swiped a Southbury police cruiser before rear-ending a tractor trailer with a four-year-old boy in the car. The officer and the young boy were not injured, but Bradley appeared to suffer minor injuries and both her and the boy were transported to Danbury Hospital.

According to state police, Southbury officers helped free Bradley's car from a snow bank on Southford Road at around 9:10 p.m. Once the Hyundai S4 was free, Bradley sped away from officers on Rte. 67, but quickly broke off the pursuit after they learned that a child was in the car.

Police say that officers continued to follow Bradley, who tried to merge onto I-84 in the wrong direction. After correcting herself, Bradley sped off again, losing control of the Hyundai before the collisions.

Police say the matter is sunder investigation and charges are pending.
