The first ever Local Musicians Collaborative Festival will be held August 13, 2011, from 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM on the Green in Southbury. The all day music festival will feature all different music styles and genres ranging from young talented kids to professional adults. There will be something for all ages at this event. Hosted by TainteDesigns, all proceeds will benefit the CT Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Additionally, local art from across the state will be displayed featuring an art expo by Dave Brooker. The event will be headlined by Southbury’s own Mile Marker Zero and there will be a very special acoustic set played by Bound for Pain. All music and art is generously being donated by the artist making this a very low overhead fundraiser in an effort to make it accessible to all in the community. After minimal expenses such as rented equipment, all proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 100%.
Event chairman of LMCF, Xavier Main, told us recently, “It’s always been a dream of mine to bring the community together to support the passion for art, as a collective. This LMCF is a way for me to extend helping hands as far as they will reach towards a great cause. I'm honored to be working with the CFF and everyone else playing a roll in putting this amazing festival together. I humbly honor the memory of Danielle Jones (1982-2007, 2000 PHS Grad), a dear friend of mine who passed due to CF when i was just entering college. Together as a family we can all raise our hands to lift up and support research to overcoming a terrible disease.”

A minimum $5 donation gets you admission and a “Breathe” bracelet showing your support for this cause that affects four families in Region 15 and many more if we were privy to extended family data. Additionally, there are probably people suffering from this disease with no diagnosis since there are over 1500 genetic mutations that cause varying severities of this disease and only extensive testing can truly rule out Cystic Fibrosis 100%.
Today the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation leads the way with research for a cure. Money raised at grassroots efforts like this music festival has led to over 30 drugs in the drug discovery pipeline today. Fifty years ago, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, the median predicted age of survival is more than 37 years old. The CF Foundation has earned a four-star rating for sound fiscal management from Charity Navigator and is an accredited charity of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
