ID Released in Fatal Accident in Southbury Involving Sanitation Vehicle: UPDATE

The accident led to a road closure for several hours Monday morning.

UPDATE, 4 p.m. State police say Kim P. Lesko, 59, of Silano Drive in Oxford, died as a result of the injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle accident early Monday morning in Southbury.

Lesko was traveling on Route 188 northbound and while trying to negotiate a left curve her vehicle swerved left into the southbound lane and came to rest facing west in the southbound lane, state police said.

A sanitation vehicle, which was driven by Jeffrey Jensen, 51, of Naugatuck was traveling southbound on Route 188 and struck the right side of Lesko's car with its front end, state police said.

Jensen was not injured. State police said the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday and that the road was dark and slushy. State police continue to investigate the accident.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Route 188 between Route 67 and Interstate 84 Exit 16 is closed for a fatal accident involving a sanitation truck and a car, state police said.

State police urge motorists to seek an alternate route and to reduce speed in the area.

The state Department of Transportation says it could take four hours to clear the scene.
