The new animal control officer had spent 30 years as a police officer.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Former long-time Naugatuck Police Officer, Robert W. Harrison Jr. has been hired as Southbury's new animal control officer, the Republican-American reports. Harrison, 54, of Southbury, told the Rep-Am that the job has been a lot of fun and he loves animals.

He earns $21 per hour and works 25 hours a week. He was picked by a committee for the job and in Naugatuck he obtained the rank of administrative lieutenant before retiring.

Harrison noted that Southbury residents have been very generous in donating to the animal shelter. One of his calls thus far involved rescuing an injured owl, the Rep-Am reports.
