Frequently Asked Camp Questions... Part 1

YMCA Camp Oakasha starts in less than two weeks!  With all of our new campers who are enrolled for the summer, we'd like to address some frequently asked questions to help make the first day of camp easier.  Even if your child is going to a different camp this summer, some of this info should still be useful to you.  Please feel free to post your questions in the comments section for our staff to answer!

1.  What do you do on rainy days?  Rainy days can be some of the BEST days at camp.  The pace of the day is a little slower and it's a great opportunity to build new friendships.  At YMCA Camp Oakasha we save some of our camper's favorite activities for rainy days, like ping pong, talent shows, and board games.  As long as it's not thundering, campers can still go swimming in our pool, which can be even more fun than swimming on a sunny day!

2.  What about lunch?  At YMCA Camp Oakasha, campers must bring a lunch each day.  When campers arrive, we sort their lunches by their groups and refrigerate them.  On field trip days, we put lunches in coolers, so disposable lunch bags are preferred so we can pack as many into the coolers as possible!

3.  What should my child bring?  We encourage campers to bring a backpack with a towel, bathing suit, some extra clothes (if the weather is wet/cold or the child has accidents), a water bottle, and a lunch.  It helps if the water bottle isn't in their lunchbox, so they can access it after the lunchboxes are refrigerated.  We ask that children leave electronics, trading cards, and other personal items at home.  If they really want something to do on the bus, we recommend a book as electronics can be broken easily and can be very distracting during group activities.  Please do not send your child with a cell phone.  If you need to contact them, you can contact the camp office and they can contact you through the camp office as necessary.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions you'd like us to address!
