The Friends of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard Invites Riders

Location: Horse Guard Grounds, 4 Trades Lane, Newtown, CT

The Friends of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) invites area riders to take part in their annual Spring Trail Ride, Your Horse – Our Trails, event scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, on the Horse Guard grounds, 4 Trades Lane, Newtown. All registration fees support 2GHG and its ongoing mission to serve our governor, state, and greater Connecticut communities.

First riders can be on the trail as early as 8 AM with 11 AM being the latest departure time. Plan for a 1 to 1 ½ hour ride as you follow the trails through the Catherine Hubbard Sanctuary Property and Enchanted Forest, a wooded area with beautiful spring foliage, blossoming trees, running streams, and sprawling fields; trail conditions allow for a leisurely walk, trot, or canter. Door prizes and a raffle will round out the day’s event.

All riders must wear helmets and riders under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. Proof of current Coggins certificate must be presented at the gate upon arrival. No jumps or water crossings. Riders must practice trail riding safety.

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard is an all-volunteer unit of the Organized State Militia. 2GHG participates in ceremonial functions and service programs throughout the State of Connecticut and at its Newtown facility to promote Connecticut’s rich history.
