Gun Debate Appears Resolved In Southbury: Report

The NRA had expressed deep opposition for a proposed ordinance banning guns on town properties.

SOUTHBURY, CT — It appears that people will continue to be allowed to possess guns on town properties and at town-sponsored public events. After an hour of debate no action was taken by the Board of Selectmen on a proposed ordinance that would have been guns on town properties and at public town events, the Republican-American reports.

Earlier this month, more than 1,000 people attended a hearing on the issue, but on Thursday night there was just a few dozen people present. According to the Rep-Am, it appeared four selectmen opposed the ordinance while two supported it.

First Selectman Jeffrey Manville said several town employees were concerned about a possible gun-free zone because they wanted the ability to protect themselves if needed, the Rep-Am reports. It appears as though the issue has been decided as it won't be appearing on a recent agenda.
