Hazardous Waste Collection Event Scheduled In Southbury
Here's what residents need to know.
SOUTHBURY, CT — Residents from Southbury and several surrounding communities will have an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste next month.
The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments will host a Household Hazardous Waste and Paint Collection event on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main St. South.
The free event is open to residents of Southbury, Woodbury, Oxford, Middlebury, Bethlehem, Watertown, Waterbury, Naugatuck, Seymour, Ansonia, Derby, Beacon Falls, Prospect, Thomaston and Wolcott. Proof of residency will be required.

Accepted items include oil- and latex-based paints and stains, pesticides, gasoline, motor oil, pool chemicals, cleaners, solvents, aerosols and other household hazardous materials.
Officials said the collection is intended for residential waste only. Commercially generated materials will not be accepted.

Residents must remain in their vehicles while trained workers unload materials. Up to 50 pounds of household hazardous waste will be accepted per vehicle.
