John Turk Announces His Candidacy for Southbury First Selectman
Current selectman will be running for Southbury's top elected office.

John Turk, Chairman of the Southbury Economic Development Commission and member of the Board of Selectman, has announced that he is running for First Selectman.
"I believe it is important for our local democratic process that Southbury's citizens have a choice," Turk said in a release. "I believe my experience in the private and public sectors are just what Southbury needs to successfully face today's challengers and prepare for tomorrow's."
In the release, Turk touted his responsiveness to the community and feels that he can "provide the needed direction to reduce costs and streamline processess, practices and protocols to maximize efficiency and improve productivity within Town Hall." Turk also promised strong appeals to Hartford legislators to "make sure Southbuy has a say in what affects the quality of life here at home."

As Chair of Southbury's Economic Development Commission, Turk pointed to his successes in developing a commission website, marketing Southbury Corporate Park and aiding business owners displaced by a fire at "The Commons."
Turk has also held a variety of private sector positions, including "top financial positions" at General Foods, American Can, Ethan Allen Corporation, Risdon Corporation and Loctite/Henkel. He was also Director of Fiscal Operations for the New Milford Board of Education.

He holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Delaware and an MBA in Marketing from Iona College.
Turk and his wife Adele have lived in Southbury for 13 years and have five children and 14 grandchildren.
