Lack of Ideas On What to Do With 200 Acres of Land Southbury Bought a Decade Ago: Report

Town residents spent millions of dollars to purchase the land and prevent it from being turned into a residential development.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Southbury residents spent $5.5 million more than 10 years ago to ensure more than 200 acres of land known as the Southbury Corporate Park site wouldn't be developed for housing.

The land still sits empty and there aren't a lot of ideas on what to do with the property, the Republican-American's Bill Bittar reports. The property is located near I-84 between Lakeside and Ichabod roads.

Some residents have advocated the land be designated as open space, but some also question the wisdom of that. Some people want the site to be developed and help generate tax revenue, but the town paid top dollar for the land at the height of the real estate market and the market hasn't bounced back completely yet.
