Letter to the Editor: Gatehouse Concerts at Southbury Training School
Ed Edelson, Candidate for First Selectman in Southbury reflects on recent concert at Southbury Training School.
Editor’s Note: The following press release was submitted by Ed Edelson, Candidate for First Selectman in Southbury.
The Gate House Café Concerts at the Southbury Training School are another example of what makes Southbury special. This past Tuesday’s concert with “Eight to the Bar” was no exception. The music was top quality.
However, what really makes it special is the ambience. Outside on the rolling grounds of the Training School, the sense of community of Southbury’s diverse residents is on full display. From young children dancing to the music while their parents relax in a safe setting to Heritage Villagers soaking up the music and the night air while leaning back in their lawn chairs to the residents and staff of the Southbury Training School who are able to enjoy the night time festivities, these evening concerts are a Southbury tradition not to be missed. And the food value at the Gate House Café is an added bonus when you don’t have time to organize a picnic.
As I listen to so many voters in my efforts to get around as much as possible as a candidate for First Selectman, I am struck by the pride residents have for the town’s long term association with the Southbury Training School. These concerts are an important visible way to show that Southbury is one community and that we care about ALL who live in our community. I hope that Southbury’s future will always have a place for caring for the most vulnerable people in our society.
