Local Tax Relief for the Elderly and Totally Disabled Homeowners

The Southbury Tax Assessor's office shares important information and dates concerning the program.

From the Southbury Tax Assessor’s Office:

Applications for local tax relief for the elderly and totally disabled homeowners will be available at the Southbury Assessor’s Office from February 1, 2016 until the deadline of May 15, 2016.

Re-Applications will be mailed to those who are already on the program and need to refile this year.

To qualify, an applicant must own and reside at the property for which tax relief is being sought. Ownership must have been established prior to October 1, 2012, and must have been 65 years of age, or totally disabled through Social Security by the end of 2015. The homeowner must be a US Citizen.

Maximum income for married and single persons must not exceed $52,900; this is your adjusted gross income, plus Social Security. Income must be taken for the year 2015. Proof of income must be submitted with the application.
