Man Told Police He Consumed '5-6' Beers Before Accident in Southbury: Report

Initially, the Rhode Island man told police he swerved to avoid hitting a raccoon, but he later allegedly admitted to drinking.

Patrick Simmons, 33, of Charlestown, Rhode Island allegedly admitted to police that he consumed “5-6” beers before he drove his truck off Roxbury Road in Southbury Monday night, the Republican-American reports.

He was charged with DUI and released on a $1,000 bond. Simmons was not injured when his pickup truck struck a guardrail, knocked over wooded posts, and hit two trees, the Rep-Am reports.

Simmons initially told police he swerved to avoid hitting a raccoon.
