May is for Manners at MES
Our local prevention council known as S.M.A.R.T., Inc. (Southbury and Middlebury Acting Responsibly Together) has worked with the Region 15 Elementary Schools to promote an initiative with a drive to focus on manners for the month of May. Students at MES are being recognized for their great manners throughout the month with different adults in the building taking turns to nominate students who they see doing a great job being polite and positive role models to others around them. These nominators included the bus drivers who were able to recognize students on their buses that always say thank you and show kindness to the drivers and other students. Along with the nominations which happen twice a week, students are reminded each day to use their manners with a ‘Manner of the Day’ tip given during morning announcements. These tips were created by fifth grade students at all four elementary schools in the district. The students have responded very well and are truly showing that “MES is the place to be”, just as their school motto states.
