Michaels Plans Grand Opening Of Southbury Store
The largest national retailer of arts and crafts will soon open its Southbury store.
SOUTHBURY, CT — Michaels, the nation's largest arts and crafts retailer, is opening a location in Southbury. The new store is located in Southbury Plaza next to Ulta Beauty.
The space the retailer is leasing has been vacant since Kmart departed in 2017. Two other large spaces in the former Kmart lower level remain vacant.
The new store will have a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature free crafts and maker demos, giveaways, local food favorites, and more.
Michaels will bring "numerous full-time and part-time jobs to the Southbury community," according to a statement. The new store will include an assortment of the most popular supplies for arts, crafts, framing, floral, BIY, yarn, beading, and scrapbooking.

“We can’t wait to welcome the Southbury community to their new Michaels!” Store Manager Brian Mullen said in a statement. “With many of our Team Members being local themselves, we are all thrilled to offer the best of Michaels to Southbury’s creative community of Makers, teachers, small business owners and more. Everyone is welcome at our craft table!”
The Southbury location will mark the retailer's 23rd in the state.
