New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year!

by Carol Dores

Most of us begin a new year with a lot of hopes, dreams, and resolutions. When our children were young, we would all share what we hoped for in the New Year. What are your family’s rituals in talking about resolutions for the New Year?

In 2016, I hope to be the best parent, wife, sister, friend and colleaglue that I can be.

What I resolve to try is to:

· Listen more and say less.

· Encourage them and be supportive, even when others make different choices than I would.

· Treat others with respect, and ask for the same from them.

· Be open to other people’s ideas.

· Walk away when upset or angry, and come back to discuss when calm.

· Share my thoughts and ideas in a respectful way.

· Ask for what I need.

· Maintain a balanced life – time for work, play, others, myself.

What are your resolutions? How about your children’s?

Keep in mind that modeling what you want your children to do and be like is really important. We all pay more attention with our eyes than our ears!
