Obituary: Anne Sherbondy Rorick, 77, of Southbury

Anne was a professional cellist during her lifetime, playing in the Greenwich Symphony for 43 years.

SOUTHBURY – Anne Sherbondy Rorick, 77, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at The Hearth at Southbury after a long illness. She leaves her husband and artist, William C. Rorick and a younger brother, William R. Sherbondy of Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Anne was born on November 20, 1940.

Anne was a professional cellist during her lifetime, playing in the Greenwich Symphony for 43 years and more recently in the Norwalk Symphony. She taught cello privately in her home and other locations in Connecticut since 1970, when she taught public school music in the Westport public school system. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of well-known cellist and instructor Janos Starker. She received the B.M. and B.M.Ed. degrees in 1964, after which she taught in various locations, including Branding, Manitoba, and Canada.

In 1969 she entered the Northwestern University School of Music in Evanston, Illinois, where she studies with cellist Dudley Powers. She received her M.M. degree in 1970 and also met her husband William, who was working on his M.M. degree in Music History and Literature. The two dated by attending many Chicago Symphony orchestra concerts. They came to Connecticut in 1970 and were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1971 and spent 47 wonderful years of marriage. They particularly enjoyed their little Westie dog named Spunky.

Anne will be greatly missed, but donations can be made in her memory to the Greenwich Symphony or Norwalk Symphony orchestras. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
